Most AI chats want an account before they will say a word. FeelBetterBot does not. You open the page and type. This page explains what "no sign-up" actually means here, what still gets kept, and what you give up by not having an account.
It is an AI you can talk to about how you are doing: a bad day, a decision, a feeling you cannot name yet. It is not a therapist, counselor or doctor, it cannot diagnose or treat anything, and no person reads or watches your conversation while it happens. It cannot call anyone or send help.
If you might hurt yourself or someone else, or you are not safe right now: call or text 988 (the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, US, 24/7) or chat at 988lifeline.org. If someone is in immediate physical danger, call 911.
What "no sign-up" means here
- Nothing to fill in. No account, name, email, phone number or password to start. Typing is free, with no daily message limit and no trial that runs out.
- No login wall later. You will not be stopped mid-conversation and asked to create an account to keep going. Some extras are paid (more on that below), but talking is not one of them.
- A random key instead of an account. The first time you visit, FeelBetterBot makes up a key that looks like
calm-river-4217and keeps it in a cookie in your browser. That key is how it remembers you between visits — not your name.
What still gets kept, without an account
No sign-up is not the same as no memory. As you talk, FeelBetterBot writes itself a short running summary of what matters to you, so next time it does not start from zero. That summary is tied to your key, not to who you are — but it is built from what you tell it, so if you mention names or places, they can end up in it.
- Who reads conversations: by standing rule, nobody on our team. Conversations are not end-to-end encrypted, so a maintainer technically could open one to fix a bug, or to send you your own copy if you ask. Each message is also sent to an AI model provider to write the reply.
- To erase it: the Memory panel has "Erase everything," which permanently deletes the memory tied to your key. "Forget me on this browser" only clears the key from this browser; the memory stays and the key brings it back.
The trade-off of not having an account
- Your memory lives in one browser. Clear your cookies, use a private window, or switch phones, and FeelBetterBot will not recognise you. You can carry it over by hand: copy your key from the Memory panel and paste it in on the other device.
- Old transcripts are not saved for you. The chat you have open survives a refresh in the same tab, but once you close it, the word-for-word transcript is gone — the bot keeps only its summary of what mattered. Saved conversations you can reopen are part of Premium, which does need an email address — so Premium is not anonymous.
What is free, and what costs money
- Free, always: typing with the AI, its memory of you, a reflection on what it has learned about you, reading any reply aloud a few times a day, and a one-time free taste of live voice conversation.
- Premium ($10/month, first week free): it holds about eight times as much of a long conversation, 20 minutes a day of live voice, unlimited replies read aloud, and saved chats across devices.
Paying never withholds the help: it is the same AI, free or paid.
Is an AI chat the right thing right now?
- You want to think out loud, vent, or untangle something without explaining yourself to anyone first: this is what it is for.
- You want a person: our talk to a real person page covers crisis lines, low-cost counseling and therapy, with what each actually costs.
- You want it anonymous: how anonymous each kind of chat really is, including this one.
"I don't really know where to start" is a fine first message.
